The Hornbill Dance also known as Datun Julud or Tarian Kenyalang is
performed during communal celebration after the warriors had returned
from a raid or at the end of a harvest season. The barefooted dancers
are dressed in their elaborate headgears and costumes are adorned
with intricate beadwork. The graceful dance movement depicts the
splendid, poised hornbill bird in flight. Their heads are kept upright to
control the movement of the heavy brass ornaments, which dangle
from their elongated earlobes. Clasped in their hands are beautiful
fans made of hornbill feathers, representing the wings of the sacred bird.
