An
architect and designer by profession, Edric Ong has designed
notable buildings in Malaysia like the Kuching International Airport,
KL Plaza, Sarawak Cultural Village and several resort hotels.
Currently, he is President of the Society Atelier Sarawak a voluntary
organization, which is devoted to promoting the cultural heritage
of Sarawak and Malaysia. Edrics keen interest in Iban warp-ikat
weaving has led him to publish Pua Kumbu - Iban Weavings of
Sarawak (1986), which has since become a standard reference
work on the subject. He leads the World Eco-Fiber & Textile
(W.E.F.T.)
network, and is an international speaker on textiles, heritage and
conservation. In 1999, he coordinated the first International Ikat
Weaving Forum in Kuching, Sarawak, attended by 300 delegates
from 15 nations. Currently, he is working on the final phase of
completing the Sarawak textile museum.
His work has won him international recognition
in Europe, Australia and Asia. In 1987, he
received the Australian Culture Award for his
efforts in promoting the arts and crafts of
Sarawak and in furthering cultural relations between Australia and
Malaysia. More
recently, he authored the book
Sarawak Style which has global distribution.

brilliant reviews from readers worldwide.
