ARTIST LENDING ARTISTIC TALENT TO RWMF
By Corporate Affairs, Sarawak Tourism Board

ARTIST LENDING ARTISTIC TALENT TO RWMFRenowned artist and sape player Mathew Ngau (pic) may not perform at this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival but that does not stop him from lending his artistic talent to the festival.

Having performed several times in previous edition of the PATA 2006 Gold Award winner festival, Ngau has contributed his artistic talent by decorating the festival stage with his attractive painting of Orang Ulu motifs.

Ngau was seen recently at the Sarawak Cultural Village busy painting the lower front wall of the stage.  He took a week to complete the meticulous painting.

The stage is now all set for the 10th anniversary celebration of the RWMF which will be held from July 13 to 15.  A total of 20 bands will be performing at the festival which is organised by Sarawak Tourism Board.

The bands that will perform at the festival are those who had performed in the previous RWMF since it started in 1998.  They are Black Umfolosi from Zimbabwe,  Inka Marka from Peru, Shooglenifty (Scotland), Aseana Percussion Unit (Kuala Lumpur), Huun Huur Tu and Malerji (Tuva and Russia), Khac Chi (Vietnam), Ensemble Kaboul (Afghanistan), Shannon (Poland), Foghorn Stringband (USA), Tarika Be (Madagascar), Tammora (Italy) Mas Y Mas (UK), Doghouse Skiffle Band (UK), Mah Meri (Kuala Lumpur), Fadi and the Band (Syria) and the maestro of world music Randy Raine Reusch (Canada).

To share that glorious moments are also Sarawak’s very own groups like Anak A’dik Rurum, Jerry Kamit, Taboh Pak Ainal and Kelapang Kelabit Bamboo Band.

With workshop sessions in the afternoon and concert at night, this year’s RWMF is expected to be a reunion for all the performers as well as the ardent followers of the festival.

Tickets for the festival priced at RM80 for a day-pass and RM200 for a three-day pass for those above 13 years old are available online at www.ticketcharge.com.my and all of STB’s Visitors Information Centre in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

The festival is supported by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism Sarawak and endorsed by Tourism Malaysia.
