SHOOGLENIFTY- ANOTHER BAND TO OUT LOOK FOR AT THE COMING RAINFOREST WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL
By Corporate Affairs, Sarawak Tourism Board

The Celtic band from Edinburgh, Shooglenifty, had performed twice at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) and on both occasions the band took the house down with their good mix of dance music.

This year, the band will be among the 20 groups that will be performing at the festival anniversary celebration. And, this time around they are expected to exude the same adrenalin rush as they did with their energetic tempo in 1999 and 2001 edition of the festival.

Masters at their own instruments, the members of Shooglenifty will create good music with their banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass and percussions and their composition are richly influenced by their Celtic roots.

Shooglenifty together with other bands like the Black Umfolosi form Zimbabwe, Shannon (Poland), Tarika Be (Madagasca) and Tammorra (Italy) are expected to provide the best entertainment for the festival goers to commemorate with its 10th anniversary celebration this coming July 13 to 15.

Staged by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV), the festival will also featured other big names in world music performers in the like of Randy Raine Reusch from Canada, Huun Huur Tu who will perform with Malerja (Tuva and Russia), Khac Chi (Vietnam), Mah Meri, Aseana Percussion Unit (both from Kuala Lumpur), Doghouse Skifle (UK), Ensemble Kaboul (Afghanistan), Inka Marka (Peru, Chile, Australia), Foghorn Stringband (USA), Fadi and the Band (Syria) and Mas Y Mas (UK).

They will be joined by Sarawak’s very own renowned performers like Jerry Kamit, Anak Adi’ Rurum, Kelapang Bamboo Band and Tabuh Pak Ainal.

Together, all these performers will showcase another exciting edition of the festival which has managed to create a name for itself internationally and won the PATA 2006 Gold Award.

Tickets for the festival, priced at RM80 for a one-day pass and RM200 for a three-day pass for those above 13 years old, are available online at www.ticketcharge.com.my and also at all of STB’s Visitors Information Centre in Kuching (018-410944), Sibu (084-340980) and Miri (085-434180).

STB is also currently doing a statewide roadshow to promote the festival among the locals.
