STATE-WIDE PROMOTION FOR RWMF

Sarawak Tourism Board will begin its state-wide promotional activity for Rainforest World Music Festival this coming June 29.

The promotional activity will kick-start in Sibu in conjunction with Borneo Cultural Festival and STB will set up a booth at the Sibu Time Square. 

During the three-day promotional activity, open daily from 10am to 9pm, the STB team will be offering for sale the RWMF tickets and the festival memorabilia like t-shirts, mug holder and bandana.

Tickets are priced at RM80 for a one-day pass and RM200 for a three-day pass for those above 13 years old. Tickets for children aged between three and 12 are at RM40 for a one-day pass and RM100 for a three-day pass. Payment for ticket purchase is cash only as those who wish to pay with credit card are advice to purchase the ticket online at www.ticketcharge.com.my.

They will be in Sibu until July 1 before proceeding to Bintulu. The promotional activity in Bintulu will at the City Point shopping complex from July 2.

STB team will be in Bintulu for three days until July 4. On July 2, the STB booth will open from 2pm to 9pm while on July 3 and 4, the booth will open from 11am till 9pm.

The STB team’s last stop will be Miri. The will be in Miri from July 6 to 8 and their booth will set up at the Boulevard Shopping Centre.  The opening hours is at 11am to 9pm daily.

This year STB will be celebrating the festival’s 10th anniversary and 20 bands have been invited to perform during the three days at the festival. The festival will be held from July 13 to 15 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.

The bands that will perform at the festival are those who had performed in the previous RWMF since it started in 1998.  They are Black Umfolosi from Zimbabwe,  Inka Marka from Peru, Shooglenifty (Scotland), Aseana Percussion Unit (Kuala Lumpur), Huun Huur Tu and Malerji (Tuva and Russia), Khac Chi (Vietnam), Ensemble Kaboul (Afghanistan), Shannon (Poland), Foghorn Stringband (USA), Tarika Be (Madagascar), Tammora (Italy) Mas Y Mas (UK), Doghouse Skiffle Band (UK), Mah Meri (Kuala Lumpur), Fadi and the Band (Syria) and the maestro of world music Randy Raine Reusch (Canada).

To share that glorious moments are also Sarawak’s very own groups like Anak A’dik Rurum, Jerry Kamit, Taboh Pak Ainal and Kelapang Kelabit Bamboo Band.

With workshop sessions in the afternoon and concert at night, this year’s RWMF is expected to be a reunion for all the performers as well as the ardent followers of the festival.

The PATA 2006 Gold Award winner, RWMF, is listed as one of the 50 events promoted under the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 calendar of event.
