CELTIC MUSIC COMPLETE WITH BAGPIPES, BODHRANS, WHISTLES, KILTS AND TATTOO AT RWMF

Shannon is from Poland but the band is not going to play traditional Polish music at the coming Rainforest World Music Festival.

Instead, they are going to play raw and energetic Celtic music complete with the bagpipes, bodhrans, whistles, kilts and tattoos.

Although Celtic music is very much associated with Ireland, Scotland, but there is also a strong demand for such music in Poland. And, Shannon, led by Marcin Ruminski, fill in this demand with their spectacular bagpipes, fiddle and bodhrans.

When Shannon first performed at the RWMF in 2005, they were made up of six all-male band. But, for the coming July 13 to 15 RWMF, Shannon has include a female fiddle player to spice-up their performances.  The festival will be staged at the Sarawak Cultural Village.

Together, Shannon and the other 19 bands are expected to jam at the festival’s 10th anniversary celebration.

The other bands that are equally interesting are Tarika Be from Madagascar, Khac Chi (Vietnam), Huun Huur Tu and Malerja (Tuva and Russia), Doghouse Skiffle Group (UK), Ensemble Kaboul (Afghanistan), Inka Marka (Peru, Chile, Australia), Foghorn Stringband (USA), Tammora (Italy), Shooglenifty (Scotland), Black Umfolosi (Zimbabwe), Mas Y Mas (UK), Randy Raine Reusch (Canada), Aseana Percussion Unit and Mah Meri (both from Malaysia).

Sarawak’s rich culture will be presented by her own accomplished musicians like Jerry Kamit, Tabuh Pak Ainal, Anak A’dik Rurum and Kelapang Bamboo Band.

Tickets to the festival, priced at RM80 for a day’s pass and RM200 for a three-day pass for those above 13 years old, is available online at www.ticketcharge.com.my.

The festival is organised by Sarawak Tourism Board and supported by Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia and Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism, Sarawak. It is also endorsed by Tourism Malaysia.
